Fairport Convention
Jan 31st – Feb 4th 2012

Fairport Convention are an English folk rock band and later electric folk, formed in 1967 who are still recording and touring today. They are widely regarded as the most important single group in the English folk rock movement.

Their seminal album Liege and Lief is generally considered to have launched the electric folk or English folk rock movement, which provided a distinctively English identity to rock music and helped awaken much wider interest in traditional music in general.

The large number of personnel who have been part of the band are among the most highly regarded and influential musicians of their era and have gone to participate in a large number of significant bands, or enjoyed important solo careers. Since 1979 they have hosted the Cropredy Festival, which is the largest such annual event in England. Individually and collectively the members of Fairport Convention have received numerous awards recognizing their contribution to music and culture.

Kieran Goss has long been hailed as one of Ireland's leading performers and songwriters. In addition to being a double platinum selling recording artist, Kieran Goss's songs have been recorded by some of Ireland's top recording artists, including Mary Black, Christy Moore and Frances Black, bringing his songs to a worldwide audience and winning him fans across the globe.

In 2007 Kieran toured in the U.K. with Don Williams. His performances on that tour won him legions of fans and prompted the American country music legend to remark: "Kieran Goss is one of the most gifted performers around today. He has an amazing ability to reach out to his audience and connect with them in a very special way. This guy is the real deal and that's what makes him the star he is".
This sentiment was echoed by leading country music star and songwriter, Rodney Crowell, a longtime friend and collaborator of Kieran's:

"I've toured with Kieran and watched him perform many times. I've seen him win the hearts of everyone in the room, not just with his great songs and instinctive musicality, but with his warmth and humour. It's the performance of an artist at the top of his game, delivered with intelligence and integrity... Kieran Goss is one of Ireland's national treasures".

  Tall Tales and Short Songs
featuring Radio Ulster's Gerry Anderson and Sean Donnelly
enquire for availability

This production is unique - a one –man show featuring two people. Main talking head is Gerry Anderson (BBC Radio Ulster) who will tell preposterous stories that are not necessarily true and read excerpts from his two volumes of autobiography 'Surviving in Stroke City' and 'Heads'. He will read other pieces he has written with which audiences are unfamiliar.

When Mister Anderson tires Sean Donnelly will sing songs from his much sought after cds such as 'Like a Morning Star Fading,''On Breezes Fresh and Fair' and 'Beyond the Open Door' Gerry Anderson is of the opinion that Sean Donnelly is the best folk singer in Ireland, having, for example, recorded what Mr. Anderson believes is the definitive version of 'The Homes of Donegal'. This is partly because Anderson claims to have been born there in spite of his birth certificate indicating otherwise.

Sean Donnelly will also converse with Mr. Anderson on stage and try to restrain him from excesses that may be damaging to the latter's career. This Donnelly will accomplish by challenging Anderson to tell a story that is essentially true, thereby forcing Anderson into a stunned silence.

This will give Donnelly an opportunity to sing again. The two will banter each other without mercy and invite questions from the audience which will be answered enthusiastically and untruthfully. It will be a night to remember, or not, as the case may be.
